Shape Cutting Attachment
Shape Cutting Attachments And Templates
Even the most skilled operators can greatly benefit from using H & M’s Standard Shape Cutting Attachments and Templates. The Shape Cutter controls the torch motion along metal pattern templates, enabling superior-quality saddles, Y’s, T’s, miters and various angle cuts to be produced on all H & M machines. Uniform torch movement is assured even when cutting miters up to 45 degrees.
A prefabricated metal template, custom-made by H & M, is bolted to the face of the ring gear, and the torch is spring-loaded against the template. While the machine rotates around the pipe, the torch moves along the same path as the template. This triangular design of the hard-anodized travel tubes and carriage rollers ensures lateral torch stability and smooth, consistent, horizontal torch travel during a complete revolution. Count on accurate cuts from proven patterns every time.

(see Diagram 7)
Installing No. 0, No. 1 And No. 2 Metal Templates
1. Remove the standard torch holder, Model “C” Adjustable Torch Holder or the Out-of-Round Attachment from the ring gear of the beveling machine. 2. Attach the Shape Cutting Attachment in the same holes in the ring gear.

3. Loosen the wing nut on the bottom of the torch carriage assembly and slide away from the machine until sufficient clearance is left for installing the template. Re-tighten the wing nut to secure the torch carriage in this position. 4. Bolt the template to the front of the machine by removing three bolts from the front of the ring gear assembly. These bolts are located at 4, 8 and 12 o’clock. Position the metal template against the ring gear assembly and attach with the three bolts previously removed.
Installing No. 3 And Larger-Sized Templates
The #3 and larger-sized templates have four tabs welded to the template that secure it to the ring gear. 4. Bolt the template to the front of the machine by removing four bolts located on the ring gear at approximately 2, 4, 8 and 10 o’clock. Position the metal template against the ring gear assembly and attach with the four bolts previously removed. 5. Release the wing nut holding the carriage, allowing it to slide back and make contact with the edge of the template. 6. Adjust the roller up or down on the torch carriage to contact the template about midway on the roller. The spring tension exerted on the roller causes the roller to follow the template, duplicating the shape of the pattern. 7. Elimination of the blow hole is accomplished by using your hand to hold the torch carriage about 1/4″ from the template. After the cut has been established allow the torch carriage to slowly return to the edge of the template. 8. Start rotating the ring gear either manually or with an electric travel motor.
